Preparing for the unknown is a tough task, but Dennis McClung believes he has the necessary
supplies that will come in handy for the year and month many consider to be the time life takes a
drastic turn.
"Right now we are in the middle of an important change in human history," said McClung.
The Phoenix resident operates a website that sells supplies based on the theory the world will
undergo a significant shift in December 2012 that could spell disaster.
"Personally, I hope nothing happens at all in 2012," said McClung. "But I feel like it's going to be a
lot bigger than Y2K, it's a lot more substantial."
The year 2012 is clouded in suspicion, questions, and speculation. There are several reasons
why McClung and others believe it is significant.
"The Mayan calendar, the long count calendar comes to an end and there are many other prophecies and scientific theories from around the
world that directly point to 2012 as a time of change," said McClung while sharing the various explanations listed on his website. Read them all
here.
Some of the theories include computers shutting down and communications systems going silent. One even predicts the sun going dark.
"There's anything from a pole shift to problems with solar flares penetrating our electromagnetic shield," said McClung, "I've also heard
theories of a brown dwarf star in elliptical orbit around the Earth that will make an appearance at that time."
McClung said his full-time job is researching 2012 and operating his website, filling orders from around the world for everything from gas
masks to power generators.
"There are interpretations from the Incas and right here in Arizona with the Hopi Indians and you have interpretations from the Jewish
calendar," said McClung.
McClung's website has been in operation for nearly nine years and has seen business sharply increase recently.
"I've seen a tenfold increase in the amount of
traffic I get and the amount of business I get;
I'm shipping items all over the world;
India residents are big buyers," said McClung.
He said many of his clients are well-educated,
affluent people who request to remain
anonymous out of fear of being ridiculed for
their beliefs.
"My most popular sellers would be water
purification tablets, meals ready to eat and
survival books," McClung said.
"I'm not a firm believer in any particular theory
or prophecy, but I like to present the
information and let them make up their own
mind," said McClung.
He understands many may not share his
same beliefs regarding the significance of
2012, but said he hopes the same people
who don't believe will have an open mind.
"It would be great if we could all prepare for something that does happen and hopefully we can prevent anything from happening."
